Founder & Consulting Analyst
Arun Taneja is the Founder, President and Consulting Analyst of the Taneja Group, an analyst and consulting group focused on storage and storage-centric server technologies. From late 2000 to early 2003 he was a Senior Analyst at the Enterprise Storage Group, an analyst group focused on storage technologies. He has 25 years experience in the industry specifically in the areas of Servers, Operating systems, File Systems, Storage Area Networks, Network Attached Storage, FC, iSCSI and InfiniBand, Clustering and Storage Management Software (backup/restore, replication, snapshot, SRM, virtualization, etc.).
Arun has held various executive level positions in marketing and engineering with companies like Sun Microsystems, IBM, Data General, Vixel and Andataco. He specializes in identifying technologies that have disruptive market potential and assisting companies with market positioning and strategy. He works with a number of VC’s in assessing technologies (FC, iSCSI, InfiniBand and others) and companies. He speaks often at trade shows, customer and industry events and writes on technology trends and implications for IT in the mid to large enterprises. He is frequently quoted in the press as an industry expert in storage networking. Arun holds a Bachelor’s in Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India and an MSEE and MBA from the University of New Hampshire.
Senior Analyst & Consultant
Jeff brings to Taneja Group more than 20 years of marketing and operational experience at a variety of infrastructure software, systems and semiconductor companies. He focuses on all flavors of virtualization and the cloud, and also covers the intersection of these technologies with various types of storage, including Fibre Channel and iSCSI based SANs. Jeff advises clients on issues ranging from product and competitive positioning to messaging and go-to-market initiatives, and helps companies to work through challenging product and technology transitions. Prior to joining Taneja Group, Jeff spent five years as Vice President of Marketing and later Vice President of Corporate Strategy at VMware, a leading provider of virtual infrastructure software acquired by EMC in 2004. Earlier in his career, Jeff held senior management positions at DG Systems, Dataquest, MIPS, and HP. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Math and Computational Sciences from Stanford University and an MBA from Harvard.
Sr. Analyst / Director – Lab Validation Services
Jeff joins Taneja Group from a broad background of hands-on operational IT management and infrastructure engineering, bringing to the group over 20 years of deep experience within the trenches of practicing IT. Jeff’s experience crosses the gamut of operational IT encompassing IT governance, operations management, project management, infrastructure architecture, SAN engineering, and process re-engineering in financial, healthcare, professional services, and government sectors. Following a position as a director of an infrastructure and application consulting practice at CIBER, Jeff most recently worked as an IT Manager with a special focus on storage management at the City of Mesa, near Phoenix, Arizona. Today, Jeff performs analyst work for the Taneja Group and coordinates the Technology Validation Service, designed to objectively evaluate storage solutions in the real world.
Senior Validation Engineer
Tom is the Senior Validation Engineer within Taneja Group’s Technology Validation Service. Tom brings a wealth of hands-on IT experience gained over the past 20 years in a variety of technologies, with the past 10 years focused on virtualization. He has worked for many trendsetting companies including VMware, Sequent and IBM where he witnessed the growth of nascent technologies such as virtualization, fibre channel storage, and NUMA clustering. During his tenure at VMware he was tasked to get “first hands” on many of VMware’s emerging technologies such as View and Lab Manager and he helped them mature into category defining products. He attended BYU, Weber State and West Coast University and possesses a Masters in Engineering Management.
Senior Analyst & Consultant
Mike brings to Taneja Group over 20 years experience in managing and marketing IT datacenter solutions particularly at the nexus of performance, capacity and virtualization. Currently he is focused on IT optimization for virtualization and convergence across servers, storage and networks, especially to handle the requirements of mission-critical applications, Big Data analysis, and the next generation data center. Mike has a deep understanding of systems management, IT operations, and solutions marketing to help drive architecture, messaging, and positioning initiatives. He has previously worked at a senior level in services, marketing, and product management at a diverse portfolio of companies ranging from large enterprises like Dell Storage and BMC, to successful startups like BGS and Akorri (acquired by NetApp), and was most recently a CTO/co-founder of a social media startup applying machine learning to augment human capability. He started out in IT implementing highly secure networks for federal agencies after proudly serving as a USAF intelligence officer in Desert Storm. Mike received his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from MIT.
Senior Analyst & Consultant
Jeff joins Taneja Group after a 30 year career in the storage industry with HP. At HP Jeff held various senior management positions including several years as Director of Engineering where he led the development of HP’s StoreOnce data deduplication appliances and enterprise tape libraries. As an engineer at HP Jeff received several patents in area of data reduction and invented the industry’s first commercially viable embedded data compression technology available in tape products. Jeff was actively involved in setting strategic direction for HP storage and brings a unique and broad perspective of the storage and computer industry to Taneja Group clients. Jeff joined Taneja group in April 2014 and focuses on the Converged Infrastructure and the emerging Hyper-Convergence technology.
Christine brings her communications expertise to the Taneja Group. She has researched and written extensively on data storage technology including storage networking, messaging, and storage security. Christine previously served as a systems administrator for Avery Dennison’s Scientific Computing division. From there she entered technical journalism as a senior editor for Computer Technology Review and served as editor-in-chief of Storage Management Solutions. As a marketing communications consultant, she worked with companies like EMC, Sybase and CommVault. Christine received her BA from Westmont College and her MA from Fuller.
Director of Business Development
Bruce joined Taneja Group in December 2013 to manage the business relationships with new and existing clients. Bruce has worked in high technology sales for nearly two decades, beginning with selling hardware, software, and networking solutions. He then sold market research for IDC with a focus on storage and networking. From there he moved onto selling storage and data protection, disaster recovery, archiving, and E-Discovery for Iron Mountain, Autonomy, and HP. By combining his broad industry experience and passion for providing superior customer service he continually helps clients achieve their objectives. Bruce graduated from Salem State University with a BS in Business Management.
Client Relations Manager
Tara is the Client Relations Manager for Taneja Group. She is the primary interface to clients and future clients. She manages the office, handles event coordination and oversees all website content and marketing efforts. She also supports sales campaigns, research projects and accounting. Tara has a BS in Business Management from Mt. Ida College in Newton, MA. and has been with Taneja Group since early 2003.
Research Assistant/Social Media Coordinator
Ryan has been with Taneja Group since April 2013. He assists with business administrative tasks, including scheduling, event coordinating, and client relations. He also handles website content management and leads social media marketing. Ryan previously worked for the Cumberland Gulf Group, UBM Channel (now The Channel Company), and the TJX Companies. Ryan graduated with an Associate of Science degree from Quinsigamond Community College in May 2014.
